puberty blues
on my way to one foot onshore waves this morning i was deep in conversation with my good friend dixon about girls and how badly he struck out last night. I explained to him his game was flawed, and the chances of having a successful sexual encounter in town after hes had 13 bourbens for pre drinks was minimal at best. He then went on to say one of the quotes of 2009
"fuck man i can't root a chick sober...sware i won't last"

Mitchell Twos Tomkins
If you have not seen "Two" by todd barnes it may be becasue your to young to own a vcr player, if you do own a vcr player, grab your copy or borrow one throw it on, fast forward to tonka's section.... sick song, sick rolls, crazy marn, good fing to do.
"In need this"
The coastline of Wollongong is home to many famous breaks (whalebone, Nuns, North Reef, Shitties, lacerations, humphries, the alley, the bowl, rino's, 2nd's, Creekies, spot x, giggles ect) but the stand out and the wave that really gets everyone talking is the world class break "Acids".
Acids being my local has in recent years been a fickle beast that continues to shatter my dreams week in week out. I could only wish it continued to break like it did in the glory years of Ad Heart and Saddog bray in the late 90's early 2000's. I estimate the 90% of my time in the water has been spent out on this patch of cungi. I don't exactly know the point of this post but acids if your listening.... come back to me "I need this".
acids circa 2004. 1-2ft glory

Ryan Mattick.... the poor man's bryce thurston
It not always fair to make comparisons between people, but when the idea comparing these two icons of Australian Bodyboarding, Ryan Mattick and Bryce Thurston, and the similarities they posess, i thought why not.
As my careers advisor said to me in year 12 when i had no idea of what potential job i could fall into, "Jack, people change jobs at least 4 or 5 times on average throughout their lives" and these two men have stuck true to this wise statement.
Once they were semi-pro bodyboarders with a handfull of sponsors, magazine shots and video sections. They then made a unique move from the water to behind the lens to shoot for various dvd's and magazine projects. And then, the final change of career has found them both entering the wetsuit market with their brands agent 18 and Zion.
But one thing that has stood out to me is that ryan seems to always be just that little bit behind in making these career moves which got me thinking.... does ryan mattick want to be bryce thuston?.......

Ripping
I picked myself up a copy of riptide today and was shocked to see that this very blog has coped a little plug from frames rates and saddog in their interview.
This got me thinking... riptide has given crazy some mad exposure, even if it is only a little URL in the back pages, and yet few of my finest posts have been slagging this very magazine... sorry riptide enjoy my $11.95

Back in action
Tomorrow will be a good day. After being disqualified from driving for 6 months I will be back on the road again, and a changed man after serving my time.
I am all for being crazy, but deciding to get behind the wheel after a night out is not supported by crazy the movie and now means I am a tried and convicted criminal.
In tribute to my return to the road I found the most cliché song I could to revel in this moment.

blog wars
after engaging in a conversation a few months back about the internet, blogs and bodyboarding with a few mates i stumbled across what is an alarming yet oh so common occurrence... people leaving comments on forums/blogs under the name anonymous and loosing their minds.
example a- a blog from the roast which was then comment by......

I AM NONE SUCKS. TODD BARNES SUCKS. THOM ROBINSON SUCKS.
I think spelling tom which a h pretty much sums up that crowd.
Not as clever as they want to be.
Next years range will include a pseudo-intellectual satirical comment on the state of affairs. It will be as interesting as a Leunig cartoon (who also sucks). They will probably hiphenate some letter of the i am none too, i would guess the 'o'.
Thrash'd is going to suck.

this fella has jumped on there and gone to town, obviously has some skills with the english language, but yet hasn't put his name to his bold words. I write people of and things of on this all the time i.e. riptide, but mostly its tongue in cheek for cheap laughs. So I say to all you blog/forum commenter’s keep the entertainment coming, consider going out and surfing instead of trawling forums and blog comments, and also put you name to it so people can find what your all about and cut you down to size in an all out blog/forum war.

the key for crazy
So often it happens that we live our lives in chains
And we never even know we have the key.

Riptide: How to- score a bad cover with Dave Winchester
Quite clearly the main draw card of purchasing a bodyboarding magazine such as riptide has to do with its prestigious "How to Section".
If you have been out in the water and just can’t quite nail that full rotation air reverse, let one of the pros run you through the theory of it in a few hundred words of text… and there is no doubt your well on your way to success.
Today ‘Crazy’ in collaboration with Riptide magazine brings you “How to tail bog a reverse, not make it and it end up on the cover, with Dave Winchester”
First of all you need to be in a prime location such as South oz and be surfing freakishly good and have a photog on hand to capture your glory moment.
Second of all you need to win the riptide peer poll which guarantees you the cover shot for the peer poll issue.
Thirdly whilst shredding and doing large inverts and air reverses throw in a reverse bash off a section, bog your tail, not make it and paddle back out slightly disappointed
Fourthly after the trip you wait in anticipation hoping and wishing that one of those big moves ends up on the cover and NMD might re-consider your contract after this cover and pay you more than what a 16 year old child working full time a Macca’s earns.
Fifthly (is that even a word?) you get word from the gang at riptide you have nailed the cover and you celebrate accordingly until you open your email to discover what shot they have run…
You open to find that possibly your worst wave/move of the session has been thrust upon the cover in all its glory, you then proceed to shake your head and are puzzled and slightly dumbfounded at the events that have just unfolded.
